BUILDING SUCCESS
The Poughkeepsie Station was in need of repairs to its bathrooms and its waiting room. Scott Electrical Service was retained as
the general contractor for the project.
Scott Electrical Service, LLC was awarded the Metro-North
Railroad’s Poughkeepsie Station Rehabilitation project
for $638,130.
This project required general construction, interior and
exterior demolition, tile work and terrazzo, finish carpentry and
extensive mechanical, plumbing and electrical work to expand
the commuters’ rest room facilities for both men and women
in this historic station. The project also required refurbishing
wooden benches in the waiting areas, replacing marble and
stone as needed and repairing and replacing floor tiles. The
contract was awarded on April 8, 2011 and is expected to be
completed on schedule by February 3, 2012.
According to Scott, “The MTA documentation requirements
were the most challenging part of this project. With the
guidance and support of the Construction Manager and the
Metro-North Railroad team, Scott has mastered the paperwork
challenges and is now surpassing project milestones.
“I wanted to learn more about becoming a general contractor,”
says Rodney Scott, president of Scott Electrical Service. “The
MTA SBMP program has given me the opportunity to gain that
experience. The best lesson I learned is ‘plan, plan and plan
some more.’”
