ABOUT THE MTA
Providing 2.6 billion trips each year to New
Yorkers, the MTA is a public benefit corporation
serving more commuters than any other
transportation authority in the nation. Overseeing
the largest transportation network in North
America, the MTA services a population of
14.6 million across a 5,000 square mile area,
encompassing 14 counties in southeastern New
York and southwestern Connecticut. Over the past
two decades the MTA has committed over $64
billion to restore and improve this vast network,
helping it to operate at unprecedented levels of
efficiency.
